About the Euros

The European Football Championship Finals (The Euros), is a quadrennial tournament held between 24 countries. The European Championship cup is regarded as second in prestige after the world cup with regards to international football.

The Euros 2016 is due to take place in France, beginning on the 10th of June. For the first h4 the number of entries has been extended from 16 to 24 teams. As well as England, the defending European champions Spain, the hosts France and the recent world cup champions Germany, there will be 5 national teams making their debuts in the euros: Wales, Northern Ireland, Slovakia, Iceland and Albania.

There are 6 groups (A-F), containing four teams. Each team in the group will play each of the other teams in the group once. After all the teams have played each other, the group winner and the runner up will qualify to the knock out stages. Over all the groups, the best four, third placed teams will also qualify for the knock out stages. The first knock out stage is called the round of 16 (as there are 16 teams). From then on it is a straight knock out competition to find a champion.
